Children Physiotherapy (PT) & Occupational Therapy (OT)
Pediatric PTs & OTs provide support in the areas of neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, respiratory functioning, and posture control. They also introduce active lifestyle techniques in order to promote the child’s highest attainable level of participation, and provide and assist in the use of splints, braces, prosthesis devices, and other equipment to improve positioning, function, and mobility.
Pediatric PTs & OTs support children between birth and 18 years old who have, or are at risk for, a developmental delays and motor challenges. They provide services that focus on the identification and promotion of optimal movement development.
Services and supports include:
- Assessment
- Family education and support
- Direct therapeutic intervention
- Consultation
- Monitoring
Pediatric PTs & OTs can help in the following conditions:
- Gross Motor Delay – rolling, sitting, crawling, walking, running and jumping
- Fine Motor Delay-grasping, reaching, playing, printing and coloring
- Prematurity
- Cerebral palsy
- Down’s syndrome
- Brain Injury
- Autism
- Genetic conditions
The main goal of OT and PT is to help children to be as independent as possible in all areas of their lives.
PTs can help kids with various needs improve their posture and alignment, balance and coordination and strength.
